2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

What’s New for 2021

For 2021, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport features updated exterior styling that is as functional as it is handsome. All models now include standard features like automatic high beam headlights, lane departure warning, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection. In addition, the base Outlander Sport model now includes rain-sensing windshield wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, and innovative LED fog lights. Stepping up to the LE trim rewards buyers with black on black 18-inch wheels, a specially designed black grille and door mirrors along with Limited Edition badging throughout. Inside the Limited model, the interior remains relatively unchanged with the exception of the leather upholstery which now features red contrast stitching.

The Perfect Ride For…

The budget-conscious consumer that wants a sub-compact SUV that doesn’t break the bank. The 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is available in four trim levels - ES, LE, SE, and GT. While the ES trim is best for those that want to save the most money, upgrading to the LE trim rewards buyers with features some drivers can’t live without. For example, opting for the LE trim unlock features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®. Buyers that want all-wheel drive can add it to any of the four trim levels. Inside the Outlander Sport, buyers will appreciate the 60/40 split-folding rear seats that make it easy to fold for a flat cargo floor that can hold multiple suitcases or other items. From a warranty perspective, Mitsubishi has one of the best in the market with a limited powertrain warranty that covers 5 years, or 60,000 miles and a powertrain warranty that covers 10 years or 100,0000 miles.*

Drive and Handling

The 2021 Outlander Sport is available with two engine options for buyers to choose from. The first is a 148-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers adequate power but may feel slow for many buyers. Upgrading to the 168-horsepower 2.4-liter engine is quicker with an estimated 0-60 MPH time of 8 seconds, but fuel economy suffers. Regardless of the engine selected, both pair to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). While the Outlander Sport doesn’t feel unstable, there is significant body roll when driving around corners or in tight spaces which might unnerve some drivers and passengers. Fuel economy is average for the class with the base engine rated by the EPA for 24 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway.** Alternatively, the more powerful 2.4-liter engine is EPA rated for 23 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway.**

Key Features

Safety

For 2021, Mitsubishi has prioritized safety on the Outlander Sport with multiple features either available or standard that are often only found on vehicles that are far more expensive. For example, the Rear Cross-Traffic Alerts system notifies the driver with flashing lights at the rear and on both side mirrors along with a buzzer inside the car when another vehicle is passing behind you. This feature is incredibly useful when you are backing out of a parking spot at the grocery store or movie theater and can save you from an accident with another vehicle. Additionally, the Blind Spot Warning and Lane Change Assist systems notify you with a warning light on the appropriate side mirror and an audible alert inside the vehicle when another vehicle is detected in your blind spot that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Technology

Mitsubishi is committed to taking you anywhere, but the Outlander Sport lets you stay connected no matter where you go. With seamless smartphone connectivity through Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®, you can access your contacts, text messages, navigation, playlists, favorite apps, and more. The available 8-inch touchscreen display lets you easily command the infotainment system and USB ports keep your devices charged on the go. A free three-month trial of SiriusXM™ radio so you can listen to music, podcasts, news, sports, and more on your favorite satellite radio stations.

Alternative Options

If you’re interested in the Outlander Sport but need more space, consider the full-sized Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. This plug-in hybrid vehicle allows you to reduce the carbon footprint of your family while offering plenty of features. For drivers who need a smaller vehicle for commuting, the Mirage G4 is perfect. It has amazing fuel economy and it’s easy to navigate through busy streets.
